Prescription Drug Formulary
The Drug Formulary is the foundation of drug therapy quality improvement and cost containment efforts in managed care organizations. Its purpose is to optimize patient care through rational selection and use of drugs and to ensure quality plus cost-effective prescribing. The drugs included in this formulary support that goal.
How to Use the Online Searchable Formulary
Within the formulary, you may search for pharmaceutical products using several different methods:
• First, searches can be conducted by simply clicking on the appropriate first letter of the drug name under the Alphabetical Search section.
• Secondly, you may search by drug name using the Brand & Generic Name Search option where products are listed by both brand (trade) and generic (chemical) names. Click in the entry box, type the first few letters (e.g. “Zoc”) or all of the drug name (e.g. “Zocor”), and click the Go button.
• Or lastly, click on the appropriate drug class (e.g. “Anti-infective Agents”) under the Therapeutic Class Search section.
How to use the handheld device formulary
We're pleased to offer the ability to review our formulary from anywhere via your PDA! The AvantGo Mobile Internet Service gives you access to the Coventry Formulary and other websites directly from your Palm or Pocket PC-based handheld device and from your web-enabled phone – for free! You do not need a modem to take advantage of this service. All you need is a PalmOS or WinCE handheld device, a desktop synchronization cradle, an Internet-accessible desktop computer, as well as the AvantGo software.
